7 Motorcyclists Killed in Tragic Crash, Massachusetts Driver Charged

June 27, 2019 Motorcycle Accident

Last Friday, seven motorcyclists were tragically killed in a crash with a pickup truck hauling a trailer in New Hampshire. The victims included Marines and their supporters and spouses who were members of Marine JarHeads MC, a New England motorcycle group which was on its way to an event. A couple from Lakeville, Massachusetts, Joanne and Edward Corr, were among those who were killed in the crash.

The tractor-trailer driver, 23-year-old Volodoymyr Zhukovskyy, has been charged with seven counts of negligent homicide.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s families and their loved ones during this incredibly painful and difficult time. The accident sheds light on how other vehicles must always watch out for motorcycles and brings up puzzling information about the driver’s history of offenses and the trucking company’s own violations.

Zhukovskyy was employed by Massachusetts-based trucking company Westfield Transport, which has a history of violations. The company had nearly 70 violations between February 2018 to May of 2019 for its drivers and vehicles. Citations included speeding, drug possession and defective breaks, to name a few.

The driver has a controversial driving record, and was just charged with a DUI one month ago, and was previously charged in 2013 as well.

Watch out for Motorcyclists and Share the Roads Safely

While more information about this terrible crash will be revealed, we hope that this tragic event helps remind us all to share the road with motorcycles and be extra vigilant.

  • Slow Down – Follow the speed limit and slow down when you are behind a motorcycle, don’t speed
  • Leave Space – Make sure to not follow a motorcycle too closely, leave space as they may need more time to stop or make turns
  • Watch Out for Motorcyclists – Motorcycles are smaller than cars and can be less visible. Always check your blind spots, especially when merging, changing lanes or making turns.
  • Always Use Your Turn Signals – Make sure to always use your turn signals and turn them on in advance to give proper notice. Be extra careful when trying to pass a motorcycle
